Dickwella Beach
A long golden stretch sheltered by reefs and sandbars, calm enough for family swims, with fishermen at work and king coconuts sold straight from the shore.

Hiriketiya
A palm-fringed horseshoe bay with soft rollers for beginners on one side and a left-hand point break for seasoned surfers on the other, plus cafés and yoga shalas on the sand.

Blue Beach Island
A tiny jungle-topped island off Nilwella you can wade across to at low tide, ringed by clear turquoise water.

Hummanaya Blow Hole
In the fishing village of Kudawella, Sri Lanka's only natural blowhole, said to be the world's second largest, fires sea spray up to 30 metres high, most dramatically from May to September.

A short drive inland, this temple is home to a 50-metre seated Buddha, the largest in Sri Lanka, alongside vivid murals and its famous “Tunnel of Hell”.

The reefs at the western end of Dickwella Beach and around Pehambiya teem with tropical fish, with the clearest water between October and April.
